Hire me! My students' admissions rate to Harvard and Yale is more than 80 percent!
It's true. I could advertise these stats on my website. But it's also grossly misleading because almost all of these students were recruited athletes.
A few weeks ago, a large college counseling firm contacted me to discuss a job opportunity. It was so tempting. There’s be a reliable monthly cashflow, freedom from administration, a focus on clients…
But then I went onto their website to research. Ugh. The firm was making improbable claims about their results at elite American schools… Maybe I could live with it… Probably not… No... Application withdrawn.
Here’s the lie with the caveat that I’m making up some numbers here so I don’t give away the company’s name1.
Our Ivy League acceptance rate is 20 percent, five times the Ivy League acceptance rate of 4 percent.
Like my Harvard/Yale admissions rate claim, such statements are both true and utter bullshit2.
Now watch me turn an applicant’s chances at a hypothetical Ivy League school from 4 percent into more than 20 percent in just two steps.
